Agea is the capital city of Mars and the seat of House Augustus. It is located in the western hemisphere of the planet on the continent of Apollonia, and sits in the center of the Valles Marineris, the largest canyon in the Solar System. At the time of the Martian Civil War, it boasted a total population of twenty million people.[1]

Features[]

The city is protected by defensive perimeter walls two-hundred meters high.

Described as beautiful but strange, life in the city is both fast and cheap. It is well known for its nightlife, with rooftop nightclubs, gravMixers and NoiseBubbles. Notable nightclubs include Tryst and Temptation.

Hadrian Park lies at the center of the city, close to the financial district, and is a favored leisure spot for Silvers, Whites, and Coppers. The skyscraper housing Sun Industries' Martian headquarters overlooks the western corner of the park.[2] The city also houses at least one opera house, the Opera Agea Magnifica.[2]

The city has at least one lowColor shopping district known as the Bazaar, and multiple public educational facilities open to all colors.[3]

The Pink district, home to many street-level brothels, is located near the city's spaceport and the warehouses used for the storage and loading of shipments to and from the city.[2]

Agea is also home to many dueling clubs, where Golds are able to duel and practice their fighting skills against their peers. The most famous of these is the Agea Martial Club. Others include the Agean Blade Club.[4]

Most major government functions within the city are conducted at The Citadel, a network of white and red spires decorated with lion statues representing House Augustus. Prior to the Martian Civil War, ArchGovernor Nero au Augustus held court within the city's Forum, which featured sterile halls, towering columns of art, and waterfalls of plants.[4]

The Citadel grounds are surrounded by a decorative wall and several parks where Golds and Silvers would have afternoon tea, as well as the Field of Mars, a white-stoned plaza at the entrance to the Citadel grounds where Triumph parades conclude. The gardens in the citadel contain rows of honey roses, a shrike tree, and three thousand and eleven other varieties of flora and fauna in the garden.[5]

After Nero au Augustus was appointed to the office of ArchGovernor, he installed art depicting scenes of his family's exploits on the walls of Agea's Citadel.[5]

House Bellona has an estate within the city, along with House Vardan.[2]

Culture[]

Over the centuries, the city has developed a reputation for fostering excess.[3]

The city annually hosts grand festivals following the conclusion of The Institute's school year to to honor the newly graduated Peerless Scarred.

History[]

Augustus-Bellona War[]

Agea came under siege in 676 PCE when a housewar broke out between the Augustus and Bellona families in response to a failed assassination attempt against Julius au Bellona and his family. ArchGovernor Cylus sided with the Bellona and led the assault on Agea, putting all of House Augustus to death save the seven-year-old Nero. During the battle, the city burned as a result of Cylus's attack.

The Martian Civil War[]

Agea was besieged by House Bellona during the first months of the Martian Civil War, before eventually being captured in early February 742 following Pliny au Velocitor's defection from House Augustus. Nero au Augustus was brought to the city's Citadel following his capture during a failed raid on the Ganymede Dockyards. The city was one of the major targets of the Augustan forces during the Lion's Rain.

The Rising[]

Following the Triumph Massacre, newly appointed archGovernor Adrius au Augustus relocated the seat of Martian government to his personal headquarters in Attica.
