The Battle of Luna was the first major battle of the Solar War, consisting of an extended campaign by the Ash Lord to retake Luna from The Rising.

Background[]

In November 743 PCE, the Rising took control of Luna after Octavia au Lune was assassinated by Darrow, Mustang, Cassius, and Sevro.

After the Jackal's failed nuclear bombing, ArchImperator Magnus au Grimmus rallied the remaining ships loyal to The Society before withdrawing to Mercury and Venus.

Society Legions and Peerless Scarred loyal to Octavia's regime were left marooned after the Rising took control.

After regrouping, the Ash Lord's fleet returned in January 744 PCE to relieve the marooned loyalist forces and attempt to retake the moon.

Prelude[]

In the wake of Octavia's death, two Obsidian tribes sacked the moon, ravaging highColor and lowColor citizens alike.

A few weeks after Octavia's death, Cassius leaves Luna with Lysander au Lune in early December 743 PCE.

In the weeks between the fall of Octavia and the Battle of Luna, the Hyperion Museum of Antiquities was looted by soldiers looking to line their own pockets.[1]

A few weeks after Cassius' departure from Luna, Darrow is introduced to his son Pax for the first time.

Some time following this, the Ash Lord returned to Luna to launch his ground war in January 744 PCE.

Battle[]

The battle for control of Luna lasted for three years, beginning in early 744 PCE and ending in late 746/early 747 PCE[2]. The ground fighting was intense, coming to be referred to as the Block Wars, and resulted in high numbers of civilian casualties. Whole city blocks were leveled by munitions used on both sides.[3]

Many of the civilian casualties were at the hands of Obsidian war bands sacking and looting whatever they could find in Society-held territory. [4]

Obsidian war bands would occasionally be comprised of a shaman being protected by an elite team of Skuggi warriors while the shaman, high on God's Bread, charged enemy positions naked[5].

Some Rising units were rumored to have used Pinks as human lie detectors in the field when they couldn't get access to the necessary tech.[1]

Ephraim ti Horn served for two years as a Scar Hunter for the Rising before his entire unit was slaughtered in Endymion by a Society Gold. When the man was pardoned by the Republic Sovereign Virginia au Augustus in exchange for access to the man's resources and bank account, Ephraim deserted and turned to a life of crime.

At some point during the campaign, Sefi Volarus battled Euripedes au Votum atop the Dome of Endymion, where the latter was devoured by Sefi's griffin, Godeater.[5]

During the first year of the battle, Ephraim's unit was hunting a Gold Impressario of the Society when a building adjacent to theirs was demolished by termite munitions. When the dust cleared, the Gold woman who owned most of the block stood in the wreckage sneering at the Rising commandos, having lost an arm and her skin in the explosion. She chose to bleed to death rather than accept medical aid from her enemy. [5]

Aftermath[]

Following the loss of Luna, the Ash Lord concentrated the Society Remnant's forces on Mars, leading to an extended campaign over the next two years, culminating in the Battle of Mars in 749 PCE.
