Cimmeria is a continent on Mars in the planet's western hemisphere. The continent is bordered to the west by the Amazonian Sea,[1] to the east by the Thermic Sea,[2] and to the southeast by Apollonia.[1][3] It has the richest sources of helium-3 out of all continents on Mars,[3] and briefly served as the territory of the Obsidian AllTribe during the later years of the Solar War.
Description[]
In southern Cimmeria, the highlands taper away into endless plains and jungle belts.[4]

Trivia[]
- Cimmeria is named for Terra Cimmeria, a large highland region on Mars located in the eastern hemisphere. Ironically, none of the locations identified as being on the Cimmerian continent in the novels are actually located in Terra Cimmeria.
- There was a reference to Osgiliath made when Darrow visits the Yorkton Bazaar.

- ↑ Details in Dark Age establish that the Red Hand's base was located in the northern hemisphere of Mars, with Chapter 71 implying that the base is located 46 degrees North of the equator. Ephraim mentions in Chapter 74 that they traveled over the North Thermic while approaching the base. Since Virginia's descriptions of the Iron Circle in Chapter 91 place the Amazonian Sea on the west coast of Cimmeria, this indicates that the Thermic Sea is on the east coast. This would appear to contradict Golden Son chapter 38, where Darrow's party travels north to reach Agea during the Lion's Rain and passes the shores of the Thermic Sea on the left. However, from a tactical standpoint it makes more logical sense for this to be an error, because their staging area at The Institute was explicitly located north of Agea, which would require them to fly over the main canyon of Valles Marineris. Not only does Darrow's narration makes no mention of doing such a thing, but the main canyon's width of up to 200 km would require them to fly across, rather than skip as they were consistently depicted doing.

- ↑ The Boetian plains are named for Boetia, a region located in central Greece. If the same logic holds for Cimmeria, this would put them in the central region of the continent.

- ↑ 7.0 7.1 When discussing their origins with Cormac in Chapter 66 of Dark Age, Lyria says "You're southern too," indicating that both of them are from southern Cimmeria. Based on her use of Casseda as a cover story to avoid revealing that she was from Lagalos, both mines would have to be in southern Cimmeria.

- ↑ 9.0 9.1 One of the defining characteristics of a taiga is a subarctic climate due to its proximity to the planet's north pole. Golden Son establishes that Lykos is located in the southern part of the Martian taiga, and Light Bringer chapter 19 establishes that the mine is surrounded by highlands. Based on the outline of the Borealis Basin and maps of Mars' elevation in the 21st century, Cimmeria is the only continent with the conditions to house both Lykos and the Taiga.
