Exeter is a Brown from Mercury and the personal valet of the Master Maker Glirastes.
Appearance[]
Exeter is described as "A spindly, bone-pale man with a cadaverous face as emotive as concrete."[1]
Personality[]
Though few are aware of it, Exeter is the administrative genius behind Glirastes' architectural empire.
Before the Siege of Mercury, he had a passion for collecting insects.
Involvement[]
Dark Age[]
Exeter greets Lysander au Lune when Glirastes brings him to his mansion, the Lady Beatrice. On Glirastes' orders, Exeter escorts Lysander to his quarters.
Exeter serves Lysander meals throughout the following day, while quietly spreading the news to Glirastes' other servants that the Heir of Silenius has returned. When Lysander attempts to persuade Glirastes to help him liberate Heliopolis from Darrow and the Free Legions, Exeter and the staff come in and pledge their loyalty to Lysander. Exter spends the next few days negotiating the compliance of Society loyalists in Heliopolis on Lysander's behalf and assisting in preparations for The Long Night. At 7:00pm local time, Exter and most of Glirastes' servants travel down to the city to rendezvous with Lysander's loyalists. They laid charges on the pen housing the captured Praetorians.
Light Bringer[]
Exter greets Lysander when he arrives at the Lady Beatrice the day after he learns of Darrow's capture on Venus. When Lysander receives word of violence breaking out between Apollonius au Valii-Rath and House Carthii the following night, he tells Glirastes to head to their safe-house in the mountains as soon as he leaves and keep Exter close.
At some point before Atalantia au Grimmus's summit on Earth, Exeter selected Lucilla for employment in Lysander's household as an archGrower.[2]
When Glirastes is executed by Atalantia, Exter continues to serve Lysander, and is commissioned as a valet of House Lune some time before Lysander is poisoned following the Siege of Phobos. When Pytha and Cicero wake Lysander from his medically-induced coma sooner than the doctors ordered, Exter reports their actions to the Praetorians.
Exter remains stationed aboard the Lightbringer as it travels to aid the Rim against Volsung Fá's invasion. When Lysander is picked up by his allies after the Kalyke Massacre, Exeter greets him in the atrium of his stateroom and recommends that he have some Debussy and a clean shave, as those things had often put Glirastes at ease. Exeter's presence helps Lysander feel more at home in his stateroom.
Cassius knocks Exter unconscious when he sneaks aboard the Lightbringer to speak with Lysander after the latter's meeting with Darrow and Diomedes.
After Lysander murders Cassius, he has Exeter sew a Morning Knight badge onto one of his cloaks for Cassius to wear.
