Heliopolis is the second richest city on Mercury, located on the continent of Helios. It rests south of the Hesperides Mountains, east of the Bay of Sirens leading to the Caliban Sea, and north of an unnamed mountain chain on the south of Helios. It is also home to the system-famous Hippodrome. The terrain is said to be similar to that of South Pacifica on Earth.

Involvement[]

Construction[]

A Lion's Visit[]

Martian ArchGovernor Nero au Augustus visited Heliopolis in 738 PCE for trade talks with House Votum. Scorpio au Votum and his son Cicero brought Nero and Kavax au Telemanus on a hunt, during which Nero managed to chase down and catch a desert gazelle. In an effort to show up Nero and make a statement, Scorpio shot a Nemean lion and served it to Augustus at dinner. After the meal, Nero departed, and a month later sent his new lancer Darrow au Andromedus to deliver a box of grapes and a note reading "work in progress" to Scorpio as a message.[1]

The Siege of Mercury[]

The Battle of Caliban[]

In mid-November of 753 PCE the Battle of Caliban occurred when Atalantia au Grimmus ambushed Orion and he fleet over Tyche. Atalantia commanded the greater part of the Society Armada away from Venus and used the sun's sensor-distorting radiation to ambush the White Fleet in orbit over Mercury[2]. The Battle of Caliban was named for all the ships that fell through the atmosphere into the Caliban sea. Due to Orion's free-fall maneuver, Darrow's flagship Morning Star survived the attack. Darrow and his legions were unable to respond because he was attacking the Ash Lord's base with Apollonius on Venus. Orion was kidnapped by the Fear Knight from her headquarters in Tyche, Mercury's capital.

Losses[]

Only half of the White Fleet was in orbit at the time of the ambush. The other half was recalled to Luna by the Senate prior to the attack. All ships but the Morning Star perished in the battle. The exact total is unknown, but ships on both sides of the battle were lost, as Darrow and Alexander were able to steal the Necromancer from an unnamed torchShip.
