Helios au Lux, a Gold of Callisto, was one of the Olympic Knights of the Rim Dominion - the Truth Knight - and later the ArchKnight of the Rim following the Second Moon Lord Rebellion.
Following the trial of Romulus au Raa in Iron Gold, he becomes co-consul of the Rim alongside Dido au Raa and leads the Rim's Dust Armada to war against the Solar Republic.
Appearance[]
Helios is described as looking like a falcon, with a long neck, and bald with a white mustache that is held together with iron clasps. He ceremonially wears a white cape "in harmony with [his] title."[1] He has a flushed complexion, which contributed to him being nicknamed "Sunburn," and is said to be more than twice as old as Darrow.
Personality[]
Helios is described as austere, unimpressed, and serious as a gun barrel.
Abilities[]
Helios is described as the Rim's best astral commander, and has an affinity for torchShip raids that earned him the nickname "Sunburn."
Involvement[]
Pre-Saga[]
Helios advocated for the First Moon Lord's Rebellion before it began, and presumably served in it on the side of the Rim.[2]
He was appointed to the office of Truth Knight sometime before 714 PCE, and was given command of the moonBreaker Dustmaker around the same time.[2]
At some point, Helios had a daughter who attended the Institute and was drafted into House Dionysus.
Sometime before Iron Gold, his daughter died under unknown circumstances. Before her death, she made her father swear to see another performance from the famous Violet actor Thessian. Following her death, he melted her Institute ring to embed it in the pommel of her hasta.
Morning Star[]
Though not mentioned by name, Helios served as a squadron leader in the Battle of Ilium.[2]
Iron Gold[]
Helios oversaw Romulus' trial, and conspired with Dido to ensure that the trial ended as she planned - with two Sovereigns - because he too believed that Romulus did not have knowledge of the evidence.[3]
Dark Age[]
Helios does not appear due to most of the novel taking place in the core, however Lysander's chapter and the Dramatis Personae mention that he has been appointed as Dido's co-consul following Romulus' trial.
Prior to the Society Remnant's recapture of Earth, Helios was placed in command of the Rim Dominion's Dust Armada.
Light Bringer[]
Helios and Diomedes visit Mercury so that Helios can finally fulfill his last promise to his late daughter. Lysander approaches, thinking that they've come to speak with him regarding plans for the war against the Solar Republic. Helios reveals that this is simply a brief stop on their voyage to Earth for a summit Atalantia au Grimmus is holding in Rome to announce her plans for the next phase of the Solar War.
After Volsung Fa begins to attack the Rim, Helios and the rest of the Dust and Dragon Armadas leave the Core to defend their homeworlds. Helios is captured alive while scouting by Atlas au Raa. Altas is then able to surgically wear Helios’s arm, face, and eyes to gain access to the bridge and take control of the Dustmaker, using it to completely destroy the Dust and Dragon Armadas from within, as payment for the Rim’s latest rebellion. Helios is later allowed to die by being taken off life support after Altas has all the body parts he needs.
