Legio XIII Dracones, commonly known as the Thirteenth or Dragoons, by the general public, is the Thirteenth Expeditionary Legion of the Society. It is one of the preferred Legions of House Grimmus and one of multiple legions which serve as the personal bodyguards of House Lune.[1] It is an entirely independent army of thirty-thousand individuals, hand-chosen by Magnus au Grimmus - and later Aja - to serve as the hand of Octavia au Lune both on and away from Luna.

Insignia[]

The insignia of Legio XIII Dracones consists of the Roman numeral of XIII clutched by a moving sea dragon, with little heaps of ash under the numeral. Each Legionnaire and Centurion of the legion has this insignia tattooed on the back of their necks.

Armor[]

They wear black armor covered in purple dragons, covered in tech.

History[]

Pre-Saga[]

In 701 PCE, Legio XIII Dracones was one of the legions which served under the Ash Lord during the First Moon Lord Rebellion, and participated in notable battles such as the Iron Rain on Titan and the Burning of Rhea.[2]

Red Rising[]

On December 16th, 737 PCE, four kill squads of Legio XIII Dracones were assigned by Aja au Grimmus to assassinate Reformers in The Society's government as part of a coordinated purge. One squad was dispatched to raid the Hysperia Gardens on Luna, and upon arrival, were drugged with zoladone without their knowledge to ensure that they carried out Aja's order to butcher men, women, and children whose only crime was possessing compromising information about key members of Octavia’s regime. Once the targets were dead, the Dragoons melted their remains with acid.[3]

When the zoladone wore off, one of the legionnaires sent to the Hysperia Gardens, Trigg ti Nakamura, attempted suicide out of guilt for what he'd done, before his sister Holiday convinced him to join the Sons of Ares in order to atone.[3]

Morning Star[]

From 742 to 743 PCE, Legio XIII Dracones was deployed to Mars under the command of Aja au Grimmus to aid ArchGovernor Adrius au Augustus in combating The Rising and other insurgent groups that sprang up following the release of Darrow's carving onto the HoloNet. The were encamped in the Golan Basin in early 743, and were recalled back to Luna in March 743 in order to accompany Aja as she and Cassius au Bellona were to transport Darrow to Hyperion for dissection.[4] A unit of thirteen Grays and three Obsidian that included Danto, Holiday, and Trigg was assigned to prepare Darrow for transport in the prison beneath the Jacka's Citadel in Attica when Holiday and Trigg killed the rest of the squad and exposed their true allegiance as undercover Sons of Ares operatives.[5]

During the Fall of Luna, several legionnaires of Legio XIII Dracones were stationed in orbit aboard the Scepter Armada preparing to engage the Sons of Ares' navy. Following the broadcast of Octavia's death, the Dragoons believed her heir Lysander dead, and most followed the Ash Lord and his surviving daughter Atalantia as they withdrew to Venus and Mercury. The remainder found work with the other Gold houses of the Society Remnant, while the rest broke away to become mercenaries.[6]

The Solar War[]

Exter ti Kaan was killed on Luna by Sevro au Barca, while Fausta ti Hu died on Mars from an orbital strike.[7]

Dark Age[]

During the Battle of The Ladon, Rhone ti Flavinius and 999 other Praetorians of Legio XIII Dracones are sent by Julia au Bellona to serve Lysander au Lune.[7]
