After a Red Rising film failed to get greenlit, Pierce Brown got the film rights back and set to work with the aims of making a TV show instead.
Pierce confirmed that he has a team of writers, producers and a showrunner hired onto the project, with himself as head writer.
A secret director has been hired for the first season, and has been picked up by an undisclosed network/streaming service. Pierce claimed that the show will have a very big budget.
During NYCC 2018, Brown said in an interview[1] that "We’re having weekly meetings on it. It’s also cool because everyone just comes to my house and it’s way more fun that way. Last time we just watched Blade Runner and then worked on Red Rising. So that’s just really fun because it makes it a community and that makes it way better than the average experience.”
He said that there will be an official announcement soon.
San Diego Comic-Con 2022[2], Brown was asked again about the development of a TV show / Movie. He confirmed it was still in development, yet again saying it has such a large budget that they "can't fuck up". They are constantly working on it, and he even confirmed it is intended to be a live action. While throwing a little shade at Universal Studios over previous discussions in which they wanted to make a lot of changes, and had clearly not read the books.
