SpitTubes use electromagnetic force to launch starShell-wearing soldiers at ground-based targets on planets, moons, and asteroids.[1] They are found on a variety of military spacecraft, ranging from moonBreakers and dreadnoughts to storks and escape pods.
Soldiers in starShells are loaded into the tube through a series of metal teeth powered by the vessel's hydraulic system, where they wait in a chamber just behind the spitTube's magnetic stream while the vessel's crew align the tubes with the coordinates of the target.[2] Once the targeting coordinates are set, the hooks push the starShell forward into the magnetic stream, which then launches the warrior toward their target at a velocity of 6-10 times the speed of sound.[3][2]
