Below is a compendium of technology mentioned throughout the saga.

Airchair[]

An Airchair is a type of chair that is presumably designed to float in the air, and can presumably be made to tilt or spin by remote as well as the user's control.

Bonepeeler[]

A tool that can peel off bone layer by layer. Used by Mickey in Darrow's carving, so that he can fortify his bones.

Breathmask[]

A mask attached to the face that enables the user to breathe in hazardous situations.

Cestus[]

A Cestus is a battle glove worn by the commanding officer of a warship that grants them direct control of all major systems aboard their vessel including reactors and artillery.[1] The Cestus is composed of interwoven golden bands that ensnare the user's arm from elbow to fingertip.[2]

As a security feature, a Cestus contains needles that same a user's blood and bone marrow when it changes hands.[3] Anyone who puts their hand in the Cestus whose DNA is not on file as a registered user is painfully killed by the device.[1]

Cupid's Kiss[]

Cupid's Kiss is a device that Golds implant in the bodies of Pinks to teach them obedience. The device is implanted early in life, and causes the individual constant pain, ranging from headaches to a burn along the spine. The Kiss only turns off when Pinks obey the commands of their superiors. The device is removed once a Pink turns twelve, and the fear of it being put back pressures Pinks to remain obedient to their masters.[4]

Datapad[]

Datapads are very thin computer displays that can download, store, and transmit information. They are commonly mounted on a user's arm, and can vibrate to indicate incoming notifications.

DataRecorder[]

A dataRecorder is a minuscule recording device. It can be activated by applying pressure, and can record visuals and audio from even inside a mouth. It is virtually undetectable due to its incredibly small size.

Darrow had a dataRecorder put in his tooth by Harmony to record the blast of the bomb she planned for him to detonate at the closing gala of the Summit in 741 PCE. Instead, he uses it to record his conversation with Octavia au Lune and his assault on the Vanguard, and then gives the recording to the Jackal.

DataSlip[]

DataSlips are thin metal slips designed to store data, similar to SD cards. Unlike SD cards, information stored on a dataslip can be transmitted to or from a datapad or other computer without needing to plug the slips into the larger device.[5]

Durobag[]

A storage device that is clear and presumably rather durable.

Ergocouch[]

An ergocouch is a type of sofa.

Faciem[]

A faciem, commonly known as a scrambler mask, is a honeycombed thin gray mask that injects chemicals into the user's face in order to disguise themselves to the point of being unrecognizable. When activated, three hundred needles built into the plastic spring forward into the skin, bone and cartilage. These needles pump artificial filler into the user's face while grafting imitation bone onto the jaw, forehead and eye sockets.

The process is imitated by twisting an activation knob, and a full cycle takes up to twenty seconds. An indicator light on the mask blinks from red to yellow to green as a means of tracking the progress of the cycle. The process of using the faciem is extremely painful, and as a result it is commonly sold with a vial of smelling salts, a chemical ice pack, and a syringe for painkilling stims to make the procedure more bearable.[6]

The alterations made by a faciem are ultimately superficial, with mask removing creatures such as The Rim's gruesli able to eat the imitation bone and suck out the artificial filler to uncover the user's real face.[7]

FleshMask[]

FleshMasks are high tech masks worn over the user's face to change their facial structure and appearance. It does not change eye color, but is often worn alongside color-changing contacts for Golds and Grays to mask their caste while on stealth missions.[8][9]

Gelcast[]

A cast to set broken bones.

GravBoots[]

Boots that allow the user to defy gravity and propel themselves in the air, hover, or fly. Each boot weighs about 9 kilos and have three parallel latches around the boot that lock the legs in. While the quality of gravBoots tends to vary, it has been shown in both Red Rising and Golden Son that typical Gold gravBoots can easily carry multiple Golds at once if undamaged.

While not limited to Golds, gravBoots available to lowColors and midColors tend to be of lower quality, particularly those of lowColors.

SkipBoots[]

SkipBoots, colloquially referred to as Skippers, are a variant of gravBoots that use condensed air instead of gravity to move their user. While unable to achieve the same altitude as gravBoots, they are able to achieve greater horizontal distance, as the boots allow the user to skip over the ground like stones on a lake at speeds of nearly sixty kilometers an hour. They are also much lighter, weighing only twenty-five percent as much as a pair of standard gravBoots. Their battery life can last for up to a year, and are dead cold on thermal vision.[10]

SkipBoots are particularly useful in low-gravity environments, such as Mercury or the moons of Jupiter and Saturn.

GravFloor[]

A gravFloor is a device that allows users to float without using gravBoots.

GravFloors were installed at the Agean nightclub Tryst in early 737 PCE.[11]

GravLift[]

A gravLift is essentially a gravity elevator used all over Society, from the lowRed mines to the Citadel. Users tuck their feet under a small bar and/or hold onto a railing as to not come off. Altered gravity (likely similar to technology used in gravBoots) brings the lift up or down.

GravMixer[]

A device that adjusts gravity in an area, allowing people to float up and down.

Heartspike[]

A heartspike is a device that can be surgically implanted in a person's aorta as a means to remotely torture or kill them. A controller remotely connected to the heartspike can send the intended victim's heart into various levels of pain, including a heart attack or death.

One was shot into Ephraim ti Horn during his escape attempt from Eagle Rest. It was removed by Electra au Barca and altered into a bomb by Pax Augustus, per Ephraim's request. The altered device was then activated in an attempt to kill Volsung Fá, as well as Xenophon.

HoloBox[]

A device that sends messages.

HoloCam[]

A holoCamera, holoCam for short, is a camera whose feed is a holo that appears on a screen. Watching these feeds are akin to humans watching the TV IRC. They often just called HC. It was used as a way of brodcasting events to colonies.

HoloCan[]

The holoCan is a large mounted device that shows images three-dimensionally. They are cubical, with images displayed on all sides. Typically found in pubs or bars. They are not extremely durable, breaking if an explosion nearby happens.

HoloCube[]

Shows holos.

HoloDisplay[]

Holoexperience[]

A Holoexperience is a form of entertainment in a simulated virtual reality. A wide variety of events/experiences are recorded, from clawDrills to The Conquering.

HoloImmersion Room[]

Presumably a room for viewing holoexperiences.

HoloImmersion Tank[]

Holomirror[]

A holomirror is a device that reflects the user's likeness as a three-dimensional holographic display.[12]

Holopicture[]

Probably something akin to photoframes, as they can display images and are used as furnishings to put on top of furniture.

Holosky[]

A holosky is a type of holographic display built into the ceiling of a room to display elements of the sky outside such as birdflight and sunsets.

Holotransmitter[]

It aggregates several sources of video and sends to others as a streaming feed, though a delay can be made and its contents edited in the meanwhile. Its hard drives even included experiences of the senses.

HorizonTram[]

A trainlike contraption that runs on magnetic tracks.

JamField[]

A jamField is a device that creates an area from which no sound can escape, nor can any signals; i.e. radio waves. The size of the area varies, depending on what is emitting the jamField.

Kryll[]

Kryll are a type of organic breathing mask commonly worn in The Rim. Made by carvers, they fit over the wearer's nose and mouth, and look like the shed skin of a locust, with legs stretching to either ear[10]

MedBot[]

A type of flying/hovering robot to treat the injured during The Institute. They have blinking indicators and emit a whine while moving. They are capable of cauterizing wounds and healing nearly all of them. The ones for the war games are stationed in Olympus, and also carry away dead participants.

NanoCam[]

The nanoCam, full name nanoCamera, is very small. Likewise, it is used to observe things closely. For example, during the testing for entrance into the Institute. Golds would be stripped and examined by Coppers from the Quality Control Board. The like of biometric nanocams can be installed on a ring. Presumably this is how students of the Institute of War were observed. It was also how people knew of Darrow killing Karnus, as Fitchner recorded it.

NeoPlast[]

NeoPlast is a form fitting material that hides thermal signatures.[13] Commonly used to make clothing for operations that require stealth.

Networkwidget[]

A network widget is a device that can compile and/or synthesize information from external sources in real time. Their signals are blocked by jamming technology and cannot be used when such devices are nearby. The use of networkwidgets is one of the methods of attempted cheating that the Board of Quality Control screens for when investigating high-scoring applicants on The Institute's entrance exam.[14]

NightOptics[]

NightOptics are green-eyed pairs of goggles that allow their users to see in the dark.[15]

NoiseBubbles[]

Large-scale infrastructure that block in areas of sound while insulating from sounds without. When walking through city blocks, one would be assaulted with a bevy of different noises.

PlasmaTorch[]

Portable device that can cut/burn holes right through walls.

PulseGenerator[]

A portable generator that creates a faint iridescent pulseField bubble.

PulseShield[]

A pulseShield is an invisible protective force field that covers the user's entire body. If the shield is touched, it flickers iridescent in color and fries the nerves of an attacker. The sensation is described as feeling like acidic needles shooting through one's body, and could temporarily stop the lungs from functioning. A pulseShield will stop anything short of pulseWeapons and razors, slowing the velocity of non-penetrable projectiles.

ResGun[]

ResGuns are medical devices used to quickly apply resFlesh to injuries.

RungPath[]

RungPaths are ladders that can be connected to together in cities with low gravity to form a network of pathways for pedestrians to pull, crawl, or climb their way from one area of a city to the next.

They are a common sight on Luna in the upper levels of Hyperion.[8]

Scorosuit[]

Scorosuits are gray hooded form fitting polymer suits with electromagnetic radiation shielding and water reclamation pockets.[16] They are most commonly worn for protection in environments with high radiation, such as the surface of Io.

Spider Gloves[]

Spider Gloves are a type of gloves that allow the user to scale nearly any surface.[13]

ThermalOptics[]

ThermalOptics are black optic visors with smokey glass lenses that allow users to see thermal signatures in their environment.

VibroScalpel[]

A type of surgical tool used by Carvers to cut open the body so alterations could be made.

WhisperGem[]

A whisperGem is a small black crystal used to securely store and transmit single-use, per-recorded holographic messages intended. The device is activated by the recipient blowing their breath against its surface. This causes the device to wobble and shatter before the pieces coalesce to form a hologram. Once the message has finished playing, the image erodes and blackish light decays into the air.[17]

The devices are rare due to their high cost, though Dancer and Fitchner managed to acquire one in 741 PCE and used it to record a message for Darrow after the Gala Massacre before giving it to Sevro as House Augustus made their escape from Luna.
