Tinos is a subterranean city on Mars and the headquarters of the Sons of Ares.

Description[]

Tinos is located five hundred kilometers south of the Thermic Sea and three kilometers beneath the old mining nexus Vengo Station.[1] The city was constructed in an abandoned mining colony that had been shut down when the nearby Helium-3 deposits were depleted in the 5th century PCE.[2]

The stalactites are filled with docks, barracks, and sensor arrays used by the Sons of Ares to support their rebellion against The Society,[2] and were carved in spiral halls to maintain structural integrity.[1]

The stalactite outposts are surrounded by tall residential buildings carved into the bedrock of the cave floor, with streets being so deep that they've been described as being more like miniature canyons. The city stretches for several kilometers across the floor of the cave to the far walls, where even more honeycombed houses have been built.[2]

An Atalian hydrogenerator connected to an underground river provides the city with water, sanitation, and electricity.[1][2]

History[]

Tinos was constructed between September and October of 725 PCE[3] with funding, equipment, resources, and construction provided by Regulus ag Sun. The records of the abandoned mining colony where the city was built were wiped from The Society's internal servers by Sun Industries hackers, while Quicksilver's factories supplied the Acharon-19 laser drills used to carve out the stalactites, and his engineers designed the plans for the city's hydrogenerator.[1]

In November 725, the Sons of Ares' new recruits were evacuated to Tinos following the Nagassos Uprising.[3]

After the population of Lykos was evacuated by The Howlers in the wake of The Triumph Massacre, Tinos became a hub of refugees saved from mines liquidated by The Jackal during the early months of The Rising. Reds from over twenty mines took refuge in Tinos from 742 to 743 PCE, leaving the city with a total population of 465,000 as of March 743.[2]

In July 743, the civilian Obsidians of the southern Martian polar landmass were evacuated to Tinos in order to protect them from Society reprisals after they swore allegiance to Darrow, resulting in the city's population increasing by 700,000.[4]
