Dan, commonly known as Ugly Dan, is a Gray that worked in the Helium-3 mines of Lykos on Mars providing security and keeping the lowRed miners in line. He was the Captain of the Gray soldiers in Lykos.
Appearance[]
Ugly Dan is described by Darrow as a "greasy bastard." His eyes as "ice cubes rolled in ash." He is apparently very tanned. His voice is referred to as stale and heavy like the air inside a frysuit.[1]
His hair is described as "thin and weedy,"[1] and has a bald patch by the time of the Lion's Rain.[2]
Dan has an old mechanical arm as a result of losing the original during a military conflict in Eurasia.[1]

Pre-Saga[]
Dan once served on the front lines of a conflict in Eurasia on Earth, but was pulled back after he lost an arm that couldn't be replaced.[1]
Red Rising[]
Dan arrested Darrow and Eo as they were leaving the Bubble Garden.
Golden Son[]
When Darrow returns to Lykos after the Lion's Rain, he has Dan personally guide him to the Bubble Garden so he can visit the spot where he buried Eo.
Solar War[]
It is unknown what became of Ugly Dan after Lykos was liberated by The Solar Republic, but Pierce confirmed that he is still alive at the time of Iron Gold.[3]
