Vela au Raa is a Gold of House Raa, a Legate of the Rim Dominion, and the sister of Romulus au Raa.
Appearance[]
Described as being lean with a pinched mouth, with a supposed self-administered short-chopped hairstyle.[1]
Involvement[]
Morning Star[]
She greets Darrow upon his arrival in the Rim and invites him on Romulus's behalf to a meeting at Romulus's private home in the Wastes of Karrack.
Vela sits with her brother as Darrow and Roque each attempt to persuade the Moon Lords to support them before the Battle of Ilium. Vela opens Virginia's datapad and sees the data showing the existence of Octavia au Lune's hidden cache of nuclear weapons in the Asteroid Belt, and shows the information to Romulus.
Iron Gold[]
Vela is with Romulus when Seraphina arrives with Cassius and Lysander. When Romulus is arrested, Vela rallies legions loyal to Romulus for an assault on Sungrave to capture Dido. Vela says she will not attack with Romulus as a hostage, and this is why Gaia sends Lysander to free him.[2] Instead, Lysander turns on her and allies with Dido. Dido wants to kill Vela, but Seraphina warns against it. Dido relents and says she will reason with Vela.[3]
Light Bringer[]
Vela is captured by Volsung Fá when the Volk fleet invades Io. Due to orders from Atlas to take her alive, Volsung was forced to break her spine in order to capture her after she wounded him during their battle.
Atlas brings her with him to Orpheus, where he uses her to access the vault containing Eidmi. After securing the bioweapon, Atlas disposes of his sister.
Relationships[]
Family[]
Romulus au Raa[]
Vela is one of Romulus's favorite captains.
Trivia[]
- Morning Star and Iron Gold indicate that Vela is older than her brother Atlas, who is forty-nine years old in Dark Age. However, in Light Bringer, Atlas claims that he helped nurse his sister after her birth, implying that he is actually older than Vela.
