Zan is a Blue from Luna and the commander of the moon's defense fleet under The Solar Republic.

Shortly before The Battle of the Ladon, the Republic Senate formally appoints Zan as ArchImperator of the Republic in Darrow's place after he was stripped of his rank in response to his actions regarding the Republic's Iron Rain on Mercury five months prior.[1]
When Dancer and Virginia discuss who will lead the Republic fleet to rescue the Free Legions if the Senate votes to send it, Dancer notes that Zan doesn't have the skill to match Atalantia au Grimmus or her Praetors in space combat, and would be eaten alive if she was placed in command.[1]
In the days leading up to the vote, Zan stokes fear and Lunese patriotism to sway supporters of the Vox Populi's radical wing against sending parts of the Home Guard to Mercury, claiming that the moon will be left defenseless when Atalantia comes to Luna.[2]
Zan participates in Publius cu Caraval's coup against Virginia, moving against the ships of House Augustus as the Day of Red Doves begins. On Mars, her agents assassinate ArchGovernor Rollo O'Sicyon.[3][4]
After the People's Tribunal executes Servilla au Arcos, Zan follows Publius into the courtroom where Virginia's trial is to be held, criticizing his use of mercenaries instead of heeding her advice to use Dunhul. Publius orders Zan to focus on the Telemanus and Augustus armada and let him deal with Mars.[4]
